The rest of the country may be used to this sort of thing, but a quarter inch of ice on the streets from a night of freezing and snow currently coming down pretty steadily has pretty much brought our corner of Central Texas to a standstill.
This has plusses and minusses. On the one hand, I'm ice-bound for the day, effectively absolved of any duty to report anywhere in particular for work. On the other hand, I work enough from home as it is that I can't really tell myself that this means I don't have to work. So I'm trying to plug away through at least some hours of work while the kids bounce off the walls. (They played in the cold for a while, but eventually we got cold looking at them and brought them in.)
But here's hoping things settle out in the afternoon to a point where I can settle down with a warm drink and a clear conscience to write a long substantive post.
In the mean time, I guess I should just be glad that we have the benefit of modern conveniences, so as not to end up like a Jack London character.

Snow and ice in Texas?!!!! You have just blown all my preconceptions out of the water!
I have some photos of deep snow in Turkey, taken in March one year. Even looking at the photos, people won't believe me that it snows there!
It's funny to think that you have had more snow and ice in Texas then we've had here in Cincy this year..so far.
Enjoy your day home..God bless!!!
Can't you just walk to work? :P
Houston hasn't gotten anything but the cold so far. Which I'm thankful for... I'd hate to see how most Houstonians handle ice. *shudders*
Yes! You guys are under pressure: since you're snowed in I'm expecting some epic posts here on DarwinCatholic.
Also, have you noticed that no kids are outside playing, not even the older ones? I seem to recall that when I was a kid we'd all spend all day sliding around in the snow and making four-inch snowmen on snow days. Are they all inside watching educational videos about playing in the snow or what??
My kids are playing in the snow. The whole neighborhood is. However, we're a bit outside of Austin near Dripping Springs - the ice brought us 8 hours without power (and thus, without running water ... oh yes, well pumps are electric, aren't they)? First up after this passes - off to buy a kerosene heater. Brrr.
Hmmm... Sounds like you're in my corner of the world! B/CS here, if that means anything to you!
I feel like it should mean something to me, since you mention it so knowingly, and I'm racking my brain for the answer... :) We're in Round Rock, very close to a certain Fortune 50 company.
I really like your blog, by the way.
I presume you have never used snowshoes?
I see there is another round of winter storms hitting Texas. But maybe Texas is so huge, you are missing out on the new one. Hope you have enough winter clothes if you are enduring it. And I hope your power is not cut off.
We never lost power during the last storm, though friends near us did. I used to love winter weather when I was small but adulthood has taken it's toll -- I don't love ice and snow anymore. Of course, maybe that's just because I don't like being cold.
