My 5th grader's definitely figured it out.

[Gosh, and give me Addy over Rebecca any day. A whole story devoted to a secret effort to sell doilies? Really? As a girl who has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes and olivey skin, I always wanted a doll that even approached looking like me. Instead there were dozens of blonde hair, blue eyed dolls with peaches-n-cream skin in which I had very little interest.

I know today there is more variety in the available dolls, but still it seems worthwhile to a girl for a company to produce dolls with the inherent message of "You are so loved that you are worthy to have a doll who looks like you." And if you are spending a hundred bucks for a doll....

Now the novels with modern themes are much more problematic to me. The school libraries are filled with such dreck. It would be nice if AG would leave that temptation alone and stick to historical fiction.
Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12507330852895229468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-63310387113657208722013-05-05T06:05:38.555-04:002013-05-05T06:05:38.555-04:00+JMJ+

Her challenges are dealing with her parents' divorce and proving that a girl can be part of the school basketball team. Oh, yeah, and she has an Asian friend and wants to save the eagles. Of course Joyce gets to carry a secret message when no other course of action is open ...Dixinoreply@blogger.com
