What I concerned with is the "actual" Rome which Macintyre (and by extension Dreher) are concerned with. Theodore, above, is right: the rot may already be too great, but I go further and walk with Macintyre (and Dreher!) in this matter: the rot was there from the very beginning, when we built a society in which liberty was the supreme organizing principle. Rome was not a liberal society - and good for it!
