Six Degrees of Silliness

All right, so I'm getting this uncool vibe from our male readership about there being too much "baby" being batted around. Well, I resent the implication that all I can talk about is baby (though she's certainy worth it!). Let me tell you that in my life BC (before children) I did Interesting Things. I was, back in the day, a theatrical stage manager and production assistant in Los Angeles -- is that cool enough for you? Huh? Huh?

And to top it off, I can link myself within Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon!

Kevin Bacon

1) I stage managed a show in Beverly Hills (natch!) that was directed by 2) Stephen Tobolowsky, a very kind man who gave much encouragement to a young pregnant last-minute stage manager. Stephen was Needlenose Ned in Groundhog Day, which also starred 3) Bill Murray , who was in both She's Having a Baby and Wild Things with 4) Kevin Bacon!

But I can do better than that: I can also connect with Johnny Depp (this is what makes me cool in the eyes of my sister)!
You see, Bill Murray was in Ed Wood with Johnny Depp , who was also in Chocolat with Carrie-Anne Moss, who was in Memento with Stephen Tobolowsky, who directed a show that I stage managed!

So you see why stage managing just became too overwhelming and I retired to have babies.

I can do it in 3 steps:
1. Once while visiting the Dallas Mavericks' locker room, I met NBA basketball player Ron Harper
2. Who played against NBA basketball player Michael Jordan
3. Who currently stars in a Haynes ad with Kevin Bacon.

Here's proof that I have way too much time on my hands... I looked up Stephen Tobolowsky and found out that he was also in Spaceballs. He played the Captain of the Guard. His one line was the unforgettable "You idiots! These are not them! You've captured their stunt doubles!"

How's that for silliness?

I can do even better.

1. I saw Footloose - at the movies - not just some USA Network rerun with ads for feminine hygiene products.

Actually, Rick, paying good money at the theater to see any Kevin Bacon flick automatically disqualifies you.

Wait a cotton-picking moment -- you have to count yourself as the first step, Jay!
1. Jay
2. Ron Harper
3. Michael Jordan (you get Michael Jordan in three, and that's pretty good)
4. Kevin Bacon

Hah!

I don't think I've ever paid money to see Kevin Bacon in a film, though I do love Apollo 13.

Bean -- Ah, that's a great line, and do you know, I still have the copy of Spaceballs you gave me.

hehe, I suppose you're right, Jay.

Ashamedly, I confess to have known of Kevin Bacon before he made it big. He was on a soap opera my mom used to watch. As was Meg Ryan, who IIRC was "invloved with" Bacon, but can't say for sure. And I also think that Cindy Pickett (Ferris Bueller's mom) was Bacon's mom on the show. Lot's of ways to "get to" Kevin Bacon...

The many sides of a woman! How wonderful!!!
Keep talking about the babes, is there anything more worthy of our time.
After my boys were born I felt that although being a mom wasn't the "only" think that defined me it sure was my best job.

Babies ain't just neat stuff. They is what we is, and shall be.
Don't stop talkin' about the babies.
Us menfolk mainly talk about guns, and trucks, and other toys.
Babies is what we give toys to.
Babies make having toys worthwhile.
Babies is what we is, and shall be.
Don't stop talkin' about the babies.

I've never paid good money at the movie theater to see a movie with Kevin Bacon in it, but I must admit that I rented and loved "Wild Things".

For the obvious reasons.

Okay, I'm pretty sure that my "Bacon Number" is 3.

My college roommate (now famous) is in "The Treatment" with Blair Brown.

Blair Brown was in "Loverboy" with Kevin Bacon.

http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/ lets you compute the Bacon Number of anyone remotely famous.

babies aren't just who the men give toys to, but who the men give up toy for.

Cool link Anon-Teach.,

I told my wife that my ticket to Kevin Bacon would be through my uncle who was an executive at Nielson's.

As far as I know he could be within 1 or 2 degrees, but I know for a fact that he knows/knew Markie Post (the cute babe from Night Court (he gave me a polaroid of the two of them together at some party). Anyway, with that link I could get this:

Markie Post has a Bacon number of 2.

Markie Post was in There's Something About Mary (1998) with Matt Dillon (I)
Matt Dillon (I) was in Loverboy (2005) with Kevin Bacon.

So, my uncle would be 3 degrees and I would be 4. heh

Counting myself, my Bacon number is 2, according to the Oracle of Bacon.

In 1986 I worked selling refreshments at the halfway house on a public golf course in Swartz Creek, Michigan that was managed by my grandmother. One day Ed Marinaro played golf there, and I sold him a beer (or something). At the time Ed was A Star of Hill Street Blues.

Ed Marinaro was in Queens Logic with Kevin Bacon in 1991.

Ah, my alma mater UVA. Doing the most relevant research in America.

And I'm sorta shocked Rick didn't respond to my "Wild Things" comment.

Oh that's right, Rhonda's here.

Okay. I get to revise my Bacon number. According to that UVA site, Sissy Spacek has a Bacon number of 1. When I lived in the Charlottesville area, I came into contact with her on several occasions, including speaking to her and her children once at the mall while looking for Easter baskets, and riding on an airplane to Texas with her (we both grew up in East Texas in towns about a half-hour away from each other).

That means my Bacon number is 2.

But I actually think it's more fun to come up with really remote Bacon numbers.

You guys are all such fun! Isn't it wonderful that although we've never met in person, we're still connecterd in some mysterious way through the miracle of Kevin Bacon?
