They have highly fluid family relationships, with children generally raised by the mother and her female relatives with no real contact with the father. The only real pairing they do is when one male sometimes drives a fertile female away from the rest of the group and keeps her with him in a "love nest" until she's no longer fertile.

So I'm clearly not suggesting that people should be more like their primate relatives!

I was more using it as a jumping-off point to talk about it being rather out-of-touch with nature (and certainly with the experience of all our human ancestors in just about any socieity) for most people to feel they can (and should be able to) ignore questions of reproduction when persuing their "sex lives".

There's more to sex than reproduction, but it's generally a connected and related topic. Yet many people now not only seem to think they're separate topics, but that it's unfair of nature to occasionally connect them.Darwinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08572976822786862149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-39196808558960834262007-08-24T09:12:00.000-04:002007-08-24T09:12:00.000-04:00Does this mean that a man who dumps his mate for a...Does this mean that a man who dumps his mate for a "more fertile", younger model is acting like a Chimpanzee?

I think so

Does this mean that life-long lovers in their 80s who engage in a good cuddle and whatnot are behaving as God intended, even though it cannot end in a child?

I think so

Perhaps our sexual lives connect our carnal nature with the divine. We did come from "dust" and were given life through the breath of God. A perfect sex life reflects that.Suzanne G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06863323950020960209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-60894802211045379002007-08-23T13:52:00.000-04:002007-08-23T13:52:00.000-04:00I think you have really hit a nail on the head her...I think you have really hit a nail on the head here.
Love the video too jay ;-)Kiwi Nomadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13351034705766073667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-47991046450345166302007-08-23T13:41:00.000-04:002007-08-23T13:41:00.000-04:00LOLOLLOLOLRick Lugarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16957595491409017184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-47200180867763924562007-08-23T13:30:00.000-04:002007-08-23T13:30:00.000-04:00Jay, that was hilarious!Jay, that was hilarious!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522238.post-38356253534695166522007-08-23T13:22:00.000-04:002007-08-23T13:22:00.000-04:00"... but it seems to me that from a creature point..."... but it seems to me that from a creature point of view we put ourselves into awkward places when we try to focus on having a 'sex life' without admitting that we're really talking about a 'reproductive life'."

Talk about "awkward".
