Baby Darwin

Isabel Veronica Hodge was born at 1:20 am this morning.
7 lbs, 15 oz.; 20 1/4 in.

At 11:30 last night I started having mild contractions about every ten minutes -- nothing to write home about (or call the midwives about yet). But at 12:30 I felt something like baby punching my cervix, and my water broke. Things immediately picked up (oof!) and the midwives were on their way. Isabel was born at 1:20, barely five minutes after the midwives arrived. She had a lusty yell and was pink and kicking.

Mom and Dad are tired but happy that baby is here. Big sisters are delighted. Here are Eleanor (left, with ashes on her forehead) and Julia with Isabel. Aren't they all so cute?

Take care, y'all. Thanks for all the prayers!

  1. I'm in awe. Your last post was less than 36 hours ago and in the meantime you HAD A BABY!?! I was under the impression (from tv) that pregnant women could hardly do anything for the month before and after delivery.

BTW, your girls are so adorable. You're very lucky parents.

  3. Congratulations!!! I'm so glad to hear that all went well. My goodness things went fast though - good thing the midwives didn't make a wrong turn on the way there! :-)

Thank you for posting the pictures of your wonderful family. Your girls are all adorable. Congratulations again!

  5. Congratulations and welcome to Baby Isabel Veronica. Her two big sisters look very happy and pleased to be her two big sisters. Hope you have lots of support and love there as you get used to seeing your new wee babe out on this side of the womb.

  9. Congratulations! Your girls are beautiful...I haven't seen a picture of them in a while....are my eyes deceiving me or do your girls have straight hair? Not what I expected for some reason..hehe.
I am so glad that all went well and so quickly...what a blessing!!
    Enjoy and God bless!!

  10. She is just beautiful... as are her big sisters!

I guess that strategy of holding out on cookies for Lent really worked. And it sounds as if things were quite exciting around there for a bit so she's into the dramatic as well.

    Congratulations!!!

    :-)

  15. That is so not fair-- your Isabel doesn't seem to have that terrible "is it a rash?" baby complexion everyone in my family was born with....

Lucky girl. May it hold out through high school!

  16. What a cutie! Congratulations! Now, step away from the 'puter and get some sleep. ;)

(BTW, my L&D with #3 was also quick & easy. But #4 took her own sweet time. Still does, in fact! Who says they don't have personalities from the get-go!)
