Check this out -- today I got a call from Laura Bush herself, urging me to vote in the upcoming election! Hoo boy, I'm running with the big dogs now!
And just a few weeks ago, I received a call from Governor Perry's office, asking for my vote. Everyone wants me, it seems. You may talk to your mom or your kids on the phone, but I hobnob with recordings of the First Lady.

What, no call from Kinky? You can't really be a high roller unless you're able to speak with his recorded voice.
Glad to know you guys are fellow Texans. :)
Hmmm this gives me an idea...
Mrs. Darwin for First Lady!
On Jay's blog he has said before that we need a new political party, perhaps a Darwin/Jay ticket? Texas and Ohio have a lot of electoral votes.
Now that I think of it though, those two might not even be of age to run, haha.
It's true that Darwin couldn't be president (yet). Is there any age limitation for Veeps?
I suppose you could always fall back on Rick Lugari. :)
Jen,
Ah, Kinky. I've seen that he's running (can't miss the signs in Keep-It-Weird Austin), but he hasn't seen fit to call me. ME, the woman who gets calls from Laura Bush! Kinky needs to recognize...
They say that all politics is local, but we actually have no idea what goes on in our backyard. The Austin American-Statesman aspires to be the L.A. Times, and having escaped from L.A., we have no wish to be reminded of the foolishness we left behind. Instead we get the Wall Street Journal, and now all politics is national.
Nice to know we're neighbors. :)
You get calls from Laura Bush and even the survyers don't want me! Last call was wanting the 18-29 year old in the house who had the last birthday. When told there was no 18-29 year old in the house, the surveyer never even said thank you before hanging up!
I wonder if it's wise for Carol Strayhorne-Keeton-Rylander-Strayhorne (goodness, my grandmother was married three times, too, but did a better job of keeping her name manageable) to have all those commercials about how evil Austin is, running in heavy rotation here on the Austin stations? Maybe next time she calls, you can ask her about that.

Oh dear you get famous people ringing you and yet another survey company doesn't want me!!!!!! I was being very patient with the caller who obviously did not speak very good English, and whose supervisor 'might be listening' to see he was doing his job properly. First question was age group. Then, "I am sorry to tell you but the quota for your age-group has been filled."
Wow, not just Texans but Austinites! I knew I liked you guys. And, yeah, sometimes I think I'd rather read the Chronicle's political coverage than the Statesman's -- at least they admit they're biased.
Glad to know there's at least one other Austin Catholic blog.
Well, I have to confess that we're not acutally within Austin City Limits. We're in Round Rock, the blue suburb of a red city in a blue state. It's all Austin to me, though the natives beg quite strongly to differ.
But I still don't get the local paper.
