Bearing asks, Where are all the Catholic men when it comes to discussing NFP?
Now, I gather that women have these forum things on which they discuss NFP and their DHs and DDs and DSs and I suppose also Drs. We guys don't do this. If we're going to venture onto a forum it's got to be on a topic with serious testosterone cred (like guns or cars or, or, or... something) or else it's got to be about something we can argue about (like politics or religion or politics or... cars or... yeah.)
However, sometimes we do hold serious conversations about discerning God's will, keeping the mind chaste, and having lots of good "friends" time so that we don't think we're only married to... Well anyway, when these conversations do take place, you can bet that they occur in Matthew Lickona's comment boxes, and include Ol' Man Matt's Endothermic Underbritches for Grave Reasons for Abstainimating.
Ol' Man Matt's E.U.G.R.A. sounds like a good idea...but the thought of wearing them makes me start to envy eunuchs. (For the record, I'm too young to be married.)

We do talk about beer too...
ReplyDeleteI've seen a number of NFP discussions by men, but they are generally debates about whether or not NFP is truly moral or licit, and why. And that seems in keeping with the spirit of your post - guys will talk about it, just in different terms.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Lickona's post though. Nothing funnier than a group of guys marketing balls of blue ice used for icing blue balls.
Oh, I will be the brave one to say it. A lot of what passes for NFP discussions in the womensphere are discussions on feminism, and not the kind in TOB.

ReplyDeleteOr just excuses for Catholic women to discuss sex.

And that is precisely why most male Catholic weblogistas aren't discussing NFP, et cetera: they are gentlemen.
And, as, Patrick Dennis has pointed out, "Sex is like money: those who have it don't talk about it."

ReplyDeleteYes, and you'll notice we don't discuss NFP much here at DarwinCatholic.
;)

Oh, I don't know... I've seen a fair number of the "we're so holy, OF COURSE we do NFP," or "what a relief I can get some peace to pray for a few days" discussions--enough to put any woman who actually likes sex (and admits it) off of such discussions forever. :P
Did someone just imply that I'm not a gentleman? Ouch.
