"D'you know, if you weren't an agnostic, I should ask you for five shillings to buy a black god-daughter."
"Nothing will surprise me about your religion."
"It's a new thing a missionary priest started last term. You send five bob to some nuns in Africa and they christen a baby and name her after you. I've got six black Cordelias already. Isn't it lovely?"
--Bridehead Revisited
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. What a beautiful boy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Ahh, baptisms, what beautiful occasions - a time when a soul is marked by God, a time when they are transformed to a child of God, a time for bumping off your enemies.
ReplyDeleteRejoice! On this frustrating day (politically speaking) we are reminded of our true cause for joy. God's choicest blessing on this beautiful child!
ReplyDeleteRick,
ReplyDeleteAlas, Darwin was fresh out of enemies to bump off this time around. Also, the cinematographer rebelled and went home because our church doesn't have that traditional look that Hollywood loves so much.
Yeah, I didn't consider that after the first three baptisms the other families probably ran out of people willing to be considered the head. Oh well, maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that quote from Brideshead Revisited. I just read the book for the first time a few months ago and I still think about that exchange and chuckle.
Congrats! I remember when my twin boys were baptized and one of them was crying his eyes out because he had made a poopy diaper. The priest said the crying according to the Poles indicated a happy life. So far, so good.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! And what a gorgeous baby you have :)
