Cincinnati is a city of steeples. On every hill (and the hills are legion) you see a spire or a pair of towers reaching above the trees. Many of these steeples I know only by sight, but some I can identify from the highway: down in Northside, off 75 and 74, is St. Pius X, where I was confirmed. I know St. Peter in Chains, off 75 downtown. Immaculata, in Mount Adams, where the pilgrims pray the steps every Good Friday, crowning the city above the merge from 471 to 71. Fr. Al Lauer once said that the history of the Catholic Church in Cincinnati can be traced roughly along Glenway Ave: St. Lawrence, St. Teresa, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Jude.
Columbus, I have to say, is not Cincinnati. Ah well...
Here, have some pix: here's the kids on Halloween.
And (cross your fingers) this is what we hope might become the new Darwin manor:

I love the pics! The woodwork looks beautiful...but I think you'll need more bookshelves!hehe...
Cute photo of the kids. I can't believe how big Jack is getting!
What an absolutely gorgeous house! All that beautiful wood! Looks like it has plenty of light, big windows. Here's hoping it works out for you.
Love that house!
Awesome house!
FYI, Historic Catholic Churches in Cincy
Can I come live in that house with you? It looks like a boarding school with lots of secret hiding places and a garret for dance classes.
Love Cincinnati, too. Followed a bagpiper up the steps of Immaculata for my cousins' wedding.
a) best of luck with move
b) just so you do not forget who's wishing u that, here is my article: What is in an article of the Summa? - from a blogger, who, as usual, is more favourable to Sir George Darwin than to Charles Darwin.
A "city of steeples" sounds like Moscow, b t w

Oh, it's fantastic! And the kids are so cute. =D
Did you make the mask for the eldest Darwinette?
I love those pictures of the house. We have a candle burning in front of our statue of St. Joseph for you.
Groovy house!
Did you make the mask for the eldest Darwinette?
What a setup! I won't bite this time though.
:D
No, the sheep costume is from the cache of theatrical goodies in my mom's basement. I did make Julia's cloak and white angel dress, though not for this year or for Halloween!
TS, most of the churches in that link are from the East Side, and I just don't go over there with those people. :) The St. Lawrence depicted there is on the West Side, in Price Hill.
St. Leo is the parish my family went to before my dad bought his current house; the poor church is a mere shadow of its former grandeur in the gaslight era.
St. Catharine is within walking distance of my dad's house, and is the prettiest church on the West Side, bar none. Also on that page is St. Pius X (where several parishes held a joint Confirmation the year I was Confirmed); I'm saddened to see that it's now closed.
My mom lives within walking distance of St. Teresa, also a lovely church.
I love the look of that house! Beautiful.
Oh, now I have to cry from jealousy of the potential-house AND from sadness that you moved. Thanks, Darwins.
And, just to be annoying, I ask - you DID do the sex-offender search for the region around the house, right? Because the last time I posted a potential house on my blog, I found out the very next day about the sex offender living right behind it.
Oh, and of course Columbus does have plenty of old, lovely Catholic churches. Not the same ones as Cincinnati, but still tons of 'em.
St. Patrick's downtown by the convention center is the one with the shrine of Blessed Margaret of Castello.
