Building in Blogger

With the server that dates back to my web design days nearing the end of it's usable life, I decided to convert the Humanities Program site to blogger-based site. I'm not done yet, and haven't transferred the domain name, but I'm fairly pleased with the amount of customization which is possible in Blogger these days if you read around a bit and customize your template. It has become possible to build a site on the blogger platform which looks very much like a stand-alone website rather than a blog.

Original Humanities Program site here.

Blogger-based in-progress site here.

Are you eventually going to redirect the humanitiesprogram.com URL to the blogger-based version? I realize that is probably a completely obvious question but I don't actually know how difficult it is to do such a thing.

I like that the new version has a "most recent" section.

Wouldn't you love to do a quick overview post on great places to find professional-looking templates for blogger? As a service to all your fellow Catholic new media typing people?

That really is turning out very nicely -- clean, organized, and easy to navigate. (There's a small typo on the front page -- an 'a' instead of the last 'e' in independently.)

Like Dorian, I'd be interested in some of the tips-and-tricks you found useful.

Thanks for the typo-tip, Brandon. Fixed it.

I'll see what I can do about putting together a blog-redesign tips post. It might take some extensive thinking on my part as much of this is the result of late night googling and trial and error.

No pressure. :) A few years ago, I was alllllll into learning more about HTML, customizing my tempate, etc. Which is not to say that I did anything particularly fancy with the knowledge, but rather that I recognize the effort involved in teaching oneself these skills.

It seems like I can't put together the right kinds of search terms to Google things I want to when it comes to blog design. So I am impressed at how far your trial and error has taken you.

My word verification is "sting." It's like they somehow knew I am part of an elite squad of cyber-sleeper agents who monitor changes in website design.

Oh, and yes, I do plan to re-point the domain name to the new site when I'm done.
