Welcome to Texas (again)

I never had allergies before moving to Texas. Never. I was happy then, and I didn't know it. Now I'm not happy, because the pressure my sinuses are putting on my head it throbs I've just taken some allergy medicine it makes my head oh so heavy... This stuff works fast -- I only downed my pill ten minutes ago. Good thing I didn't take it while driving.

I've always found "non-drowsy" to be false advertising. Nighty-night, ya'll.

I'm so sad you have allergies in Texas! I never had bad allergies until I LEFT Texas! (unless you count cats) I hope it doesn't taint your feelings towards Texas and Texans too much. ;)

I actually find that NOTHING helps my allergies once they're going. The medication just says, "Oh, you've already sneezed twenty times and NOW you want to take medication???"* To which I then reply, "Well, of course, I didn't know they were going to give me a fit until this point!" The medicine remains silent and ineffective after that point.

*For the record, I don't actually talk to my medications**.

**Actually, they don't talk to me either.

I fully commiserate. The allergies are so bad in the zone of allergens that we're a test market for pharmaceuticals. All but the dear wife, have sinus issues - even the baby. :( The boy gets bronchitis and I get sinus infections.

What no one tells you is that there are 3 air currents that converge over our parts of Texas, bringing all that airborne gunk from North and Central America together. The Indians used to call the area I reside now "bad air" and were they ever right.

Thanks, Cheryl. Actually, I find I like Texas pretty well (we've lived here for five years) though the heat was killing me this summer.

I think this allergy medicine might have been talking to me, but it was singing me a pretty lullaby. :)

Bluejay, I believe it. I wish someone would test some pharmaceuticals on me... A good friend gave us a neti pot a while back, and it's supposed to be pretty effective, but I can't get the hang of pouring water through my nose. I think this is a problem with me and not with the pot.

Time to dust off that neti pot! Nothing like just rinsing the irritants away. I know, it's hard to imagine using it.... but once you get over the initial eeewww, it's really quite easy, gentle, painless, and effective. Oh, and drug-free, too....

This isn't the Mountain Cedar that's going to hit us like a ton of bricks in a few weeks; it's juniper from west Texas blowing our way. Cheer up, the really bad stuff is still to come.

I suffered terribly as a kid growing up here, when the cedar bloomed in winter. The allergies would cause crippling headaches, and I'd have to stay home from school. There were no useful allergy meds that didn't knock you out completely. Thank heaven for Allegra!

Caffeine and a brisk shower are surprisingly effective, sometimes. I took up coffee at an early age.

ZYRTEC. The only thing that works for me and doesn't make me drowsy.

As a Texan, you need to know how to spell y'all. The apostrophe comes before the a. Just like any other contraction. Ya'll is as bad as do'nt. Friendly reminder from a friendly reader in the friendly state.
