The monkeys have decided that they enjoy Shakespeare -- or, more accurately, Kenneth Branagh's version of Much Ado About Nothing. They call it the "horses taking a bath" movie, in reference to the opening scenes where Don Pedro's men ride up on horses and everyone takes a bath in preparation for the formal meeting. Does this count as high culture at an early age? Can I brag about it at parties?
Babs has just turned two -- a noble age, to be sure, and now she's all grown up. When I was speaking with Noogs about the coming birthday last week, she said, "No! She will not be two. I will be three again, and have a cake and presents and a balloon." Birthday envy, anyone?
Darwin and I watched a stupid movie last night -- so stupid, in fact, that I won't disclose the title here (it was one of those impulse rentals that didn't pan out after all). It contained a preview for a movie entitled "Drunken Jackasses: The Quest". I leave it to your imagination to puzzle out what kind of a quest drunken jackasses would be on in Cabo San Lucas with five friends, four days, three nights, two dwarves, and one virgin. If anyone has any recommendations for "blowing off steam" movies that don't require much mental effort yet do not have previews for "Drunken Jackasses", please pass them along. We hope to have better luck tonight with "Mean Girls".

School of Rock (probably the only Jack Black movie I would ever buy). But you must enjoy classic rock.
My Blue Heaven (Steve Martin)
Both movies require turning off your brains but we love them.
We had a wonderful time watching _Office Space_. A touch surreal and non-realistic, but that's part of the point of the movie. It tends to the vulgar in places where it perhaps need not have done to keep the narrative moving, but I think I've heard worse on the college campus where I work. We had a lot of fun laughing and I found the experience rather cathartic.
Oh man, we love Office Space! I don't know why we don't own it. I think I first saw it in college, but even at that remove from cubicle life it was hysterical. Good suggestion; good movie.
Mrs. Darwin,
Half the fun of Office Space is seeing local Austin landmarks in the film, such as the "Chachi's" (in the Arboretum). The also drive up and down Metric while St. Albert's is under construction. The office is at Motorola in Oak Hill. The highway scene (traffic) at the beginning where he passes three white & glass buildings is on MoPac... just south of 183. Fun.
BUT... my recommendation is either Monty Python's Holy Grail or better yet... the Blues Brothers. :-)
Did you get my Cheez Whiz, boy?
My favorite "oatmeal movie" (so named because it's what I feel like watching when my brain has turned to oatmeal) is _UHF_ with Weird Al. The segment with "Connan the Librarian" is perhaps my favorite. That and George's casually dumping the dog into the punchbowl.
_Bowfinger_ is another "blowing off steam" candidate, though it is marred by some vulgar humor.
